Pebble Beach to celebrate centennial with 119th U.S. Open
For More Information Hannah Speer
PEBBLE BEACH, CALIF. (Nov. 19, 2018) – The 119th U.S. Open will be celebrating the centennial anniversary of Pebble Beach this year, as well as the 90th anniversary of the first USGA championship hosted on the greens of the Pebble Beach Golf Link.
Pebble Beach opened in 1919 and hosted its first USGA championship in 1929, just ten years later. This will mark the sixth U.S. Open hosted by Pebble Beach Golf Link and the 13th USGA championship hosted since 1929.
Pebble Beach has been the location of amazing moments in the history of golf; from Jack Nicklaus’ tee shot to flagstick hit at the 1972 U.S. Open to the 16-stroke record victory by Tiger Woods in the 2000 U.S. Open. Pebble Beach also made history when it became the first public course used for a championship in 1972.
Tom O’Toole, President of the USGA, said, “Pebble Beach is a magical place. It is one of our most treasured U.S. Open sites.”
